Under the Older Americans Act, the federal government created the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program to help residents of long-term care facilities. The program aims to address complaints and support the dignity, quality of life, and care of residents in licensed long-term care facilities, such as nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and adult residential care facilities.

A Long-Term Care Ombudsman is an independent advocate who works to ensure the rights of residents in long-term care facilities by protecting their health, safety, and welfare. Federal and state laws authorize the Ombudsman to identify, investigate, and resolve complaints made by or on behalf of residents.

Long-Term Care Ombudsman assists residents in long-term care facilities with issues related to their day-to-day care, health, safety, and personal preferences. Problems can include, but are not limited to:

• Violation of Residents' Rights or Dignity
• Physical, Verbal, Mental, or Financial Abuse
• Poor Quality of Care
• Dietary Concerns
• Medical Care, Therapy, and Rehabilitation Issues
• Improper Transfer or Discharge of a Resident
• Medicare and Medi-Cal Benefit or Billing Issues
• Inappropriate Use of Medication or Physical Restraints

To access services, individuals must reside in a licensed long-term care facility. Our services are available, regardless of income, insurance coverage, length of stay, or assets.

Ombudsman services are confidential and FREE. Donations are accepted.
